How to travel back in time: Stonehenge

It's Friday, people! Woot woot! Capping our UNESCO world heritage series is a personal favorite, the Stonehenge.

Where in the world?

The Stonehenge is located in Wiltshire in the UK. It's in the southern part of England, and about 2 hours by bus from jolly ol' London.

How to get there?

Take a quiz first to check if you need a visa to enter the country. Assuming you need one and have gotten it, you'll be glad to know that direct flights from Manila to London are now available via Philippine Airlines. Hurray! This 15-hour flight is long, so do what you need to do to be comfortable.

From London, take a bus from Heathrow or Victoria station. It's going to be a sleepy ride. You'll see the Stonehenge as you crest a hill in about 2 hours.

You're there. Now what?

Now what?! You're at the Stonehenge! Sure, they're just a bunch of rocks in the middle of flatlands, but it's the Stonehenge!

Take your requisite jump shot, if that's your thing. When that's all done, walk. Walk around it, once, twice. They're magnificent. There's nothing to it, not really. But my god, are they magnificent. They're surrounded by rolling plains, as far as the eye can see. And all that space makes you want to break into your natarajasana (dancer's pose). Concentrate. Find your balance. Breathe. You are as magnificent as these rocks.

From here, the questions arise, as they often do. What's the Stonehenge for? Why was it made? How was it made? Nobody knows. And really, does it matter? The rocks are here, they're still here for lord knows how long. They stood the test of time, literally. Would you rather go back to London for a pint? Or maybe to nearby Salisbury for some tea so we could wallow in our confusion?

Time to leave?

Marvel in the mysticism surrounding this pile of rocks. Once upon a time, a long time ago, this pile of rocks made sense. People, at some point in time, dragged these from somewhere. Know that not everything is knowable, and that's okay. Whatever your weekend brings, know that you'll be okay. The universe works that way.

Happy Friday! Thank you for joining us on our heritage series. It's been fun! See you next week.
