Race weekend hangover

The last weekend of May is the best race weekend of the calendar. Practice sessions are on, and Sunday is the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix and the Indy 500. I still get shivers down my spine.

I was in Indianapolis last month and the first place I visited was the Speedway. Of course, it would've been better if the race was actually on, but you know, timing. Nonetheless, it was tons of fun to go down to the track and see the many facets that make a race what we see on TV. Sure, donuts on the ground are so cool, but so is Race Control. The VIP suites are impressive, but nothing beats the high energy of Race Control. Now that is the powerhouse of the entire race.

I've not been to Monaco because, you know, life. So I content myself with watching it on TV. And there's always City Kart Racing in Manila.

For about P1,000.00 (US$23), you can drive around the track for a 12-minute race. It's advisable to call beforehand if you want you and your friends to race together. No special preparations are needed, but you can bring your own race suit, if you like. If that's how you roll. If you've got racing gloves, bring those. Helmets are provided. Opt for sneakers or running shoes instead of slip-ons.

Location: City Kart Racing Circuit Makati, Barangay Carmona, Makati City 1207, Philippines. Phone (63) 917 455 1060. Hours Monday to Thursday 3 PM to 12 AM, Friday to Sunday 10 AM to 12 AM.

I almost forgot it's Monday today. Go to work and maybe later you can go race. Embrace race weekend hangover!
